Perry 1CR CR309/S Thermostat: Easy Programming for Efficient Heating Control
The Perry 1CR CR309/S thermostat is an older model still widely sold for its ease of programming and use. Its price is also very advantageous, providing a complete regulator to use with your heating system according to days and times and two temperature levels (Comfort and Economy).
The advantages of this thermostat undoubtedly include the ability to quickly change operating temperatures and the ability to copy the program from one day to the next.
The thermostat operates on batteries, which last for about 2 years, but we suggest replacing them every year.

Settings and Display
The Display
Description of the thermostat’s display.
Set the Correct Time
To set the correct time on the Perry 1CR CR309/S Thermostat:
- Press the button with the clock and thermometer symbol, in pulses, to adjust the minutes
- Hold down the same button to adjust the hours
Only for the Weekly Model
Press the Day button to select the current day.
Establish an Operation Program
Establishing the operation program on the Perry 1CR CR309/S thermostat is relatively simple. Always remember to set the correct day and time to avoid confusion during operation.
Around the circular display, you will find the buttons for each hour of operation; decide which hours to turn on the heating by pressing the buttons corresponding to the hours. The programming will be done for the current day, but you can use the day copy button to save the programming for the next day as well.
Another note regarding the display and the hours is that for each hour you can choose the first half hour, the second half, or the full hour. Depending on the presses of the buttons corresponding to the desired hour, for each hour you may see:
- No line
- 2 Lines (Full hour)
- 1 Line and an empty line (First or second half hour)
Common Problems
The Thermostat Doesn’t Turn On the Heating!
Always ensure that the boiler is:
- Correctly set to heating mode
- At the correct pressure of 1.5 bar
- Free from operational errors.
Otherwise, check:
- The battery charge state, and replace them with high-quality disposable batteries if necessary
- For a test, set the comfort temperature (Dial on the top right) to a higher temperature than the one detected in the environment
- Start the permanent Comfort program for a test; the radiators should soon begin to heat up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the most frequently asked questions:
How Exactly Does the Perry 1CR CR309/S Thermostat Work?
The thermostat, in its daily or weekly version, allows for the regulation of heating operation hours. It’s ideal for working families or non-working families and for small to medium-sized apartments.
The operating principle of the Perry 1CR CR309/S thermostat is based on Relay operation and a temperature probe. When the ambient temperature falls below the set threshold, the thermostat closes the boiler’s heating contact, signaling a heating request.
The thermostat has an electronic card capable of memorizing a daily or weekly program (depending on the model) for every hour of the day with 30-minute precision.
This way, the heating response times can be precisely utilized upon request.
What Are the Main Advantages of Using the Perry 1CR CR309/S Thermostat Compared to Other Models on the Market?
The main advantages of this thermostat are:
- Cost-effective
- Presence of temperature regulation through visible external wheels
- The ability to regulate the heating period with 30-minute precision
- Battery charge indicator
Particularly, a positive note for the temperature regulation wheels that are visible even with the door closed, making them excellent for the elderly.
I’ve heard that the thermostat is an older model. Are there more recent models with similar functionalities?
Yes, of course, it always depends on the use you give it. If you are interested in a simple product, there are several more current models:
What is the effective lifespan of the batteries? How can I know when it’s time to replace them?
Check the battery charge status when turning on the heating.
This is very important because during the winter, the batteries might not have enough charge to activate the heating relay.
Therefore, use high-quality disposable batteries, as rechargeable batteries are not suitable due to their low amperage which could lead to heating interruptions.
Do I need to adjust the operating temperature? What is the simplest and fastest way to do it?
Use the Comfort and Economy temperature adjustment wheels located on the left side of the thermostat.
- The Sun symbol refers to the Comfort temperature
- The Moon symbol refers to the Economy temperature
What exactly do “Comfort” and “Economy” mean on the thermostat?
Comfort and Economy can be interpreted as:
- Comfort: The temperature in On Mode, the temperature you would want when you come home or wake up in the morning
- Economy: The temperature in Off Mode. This temperature is used for night rest or during the day if the apartment is not occupied.
I have had problems with thermostats in the past not detecting the temperature correctly. How can I ensure this thermostat won’t have the same problem?
Most of the time, if a thermostat does not detect the temperature correctly, it means its installation position is incorrect.
We always recommend installing the thermostat in a position that accurately reflects the average temperature of the house. These components are easily influenced by various factors:
- Installation near doors or windows: If the installation is done on a perimeter wall or near potential influences from the external environment. In this case, the heating request is continuous or every time a door or window is opened.
- Incorrect installation location: If the thermostat is installed in the kitchen or near a radiator, it’s easy for the detected temperature to be incorrect. Every time the radiator is turned on, the thermostat turns the heating off shortly thereafter. The same occurs if you cook using the burners.
What precautions should I take during installation to ensure maximum efficiency of the thermostat?
The best advice we can give you is to understand the reactivity of your heating system:
- Radiator systems: These types of systems should be turned on at least 1 hour before you wake up/return. However, due to their strong thermal inertia, they can be turned off with the same lead time.
- Aluminum radiator systems: These systems heat the environment very quickly, the Perry 1CR CR309/S thermostat can help by allowing you to turn them on just half an hour in advance.
Useful Tips
In case of problems, to start the entire programming from the beginning, press the reset button with a toothpick or something thin.
The RESET button is located at the 6:00 position.
Installation and Setup
The Perry 1CR CR309/S thermostat should be installed at about 1.5 meters high within the heating area:
- There should be no temperature influences such as:
- Places like the kitchen where other heat sources (burners) might affect the detected temperature
- Areas like the bathroom where the thermostat could be influenced by the existing humidity
- Proximity to radiators or convectors that could cause the sensor to detect a higher temperature
- Nearness to external doors or windows, whose opening can influence the detected temperature.
In general, the thermostat should be installed in a position that can detect the average temperature of the home.
You can use the holes in the cover to mount the thermostat on the wall, also using existing wall boxes if necessary.
The model is battery-powered, so if it’s installed as a replacement for a previous thermostat, there’s no need to use the previous thermostat’s mains supply.
Always seek the help of a specialist to avoid the risk of electrocution.
Remember to turn off the boiler during installation, as not all boilers have a clean thermostat contact (tension-free).
With that said, on the back of the thermostat, you will have the connection strip available, use:
- The Common contact for a heating contact with the boiler
- The Normally Open contact for the other connection with the boiler
The thermostat will thus operate in relay mode, when the ambient temperature drops below the set temperature, the Perry 1CR CR309/S thermostat will close the heating contact. With the heating contact closed, the boiler will start the heating production phase.
